Natural sleep aids are easy to make and are very helpful if you are unfortunate enough to be suffering from insomnia. At some point in time, all of us have trouble getting our much needed shut-eye. Lack of sleep can effect our entire well being, and, if you do not want to have to resort to a prescription sleep aid, you can make on of these natural sleep aids to ensure you get a restful night's sleep.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Valerian
  • dried passionflower
  • dried chamomile
  • lavender
  1. Step 1

The first thing you might want to try when it comes to natural sleep aids is Valerian. Not much is known about this herb, but it is thought to help calm the nervous system. It is a widely accepted sleep aid for insomnia in many countries in Europe. You can take it in capsule form. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take Valerian since it can interfere with some medications.

  2. Step 2

One natural sleep aid you can make is a passionflower tea. Simply take 1 teaspoon of dried passionflower and one teaspoon of chamomile and put it in a cup. Add one cup of boiling water and seep for 10-15 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it half an hour before bedtime. Passionflower is known to calm nervous tension and chamomile is widely regarded for its relaxing qualities.

  3. Step 3

Make a lavender bath. Lavender is known to help people relax and increase deep sleep. Simply draw a warm bath before bedtime and add a few drops of lavender essential oil. Soak for as long as you feel comfortable. This natural sleep aid should have you in a restful deep sleep in no time.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can find dried passionflower and chamomile in many natural food stores or online. You can also check out some of the herbal teas in your local grocery store to see if they contain these ingredients for natural sleep aids.
  • Be sure to discuss any prolonged sleeping problems with your doctor especially if some of these natural sleep aids do not work. There could be an underlying medical problem for your insomnia.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Valerian.
