If you like to use curlers to "set" your hair, then nothing could be easier than velcro style rollers. For style support or va va voom volume, velcro rollers can be magic.

How are they different? Well with traditional rollers, you section the hair, wrap it around the slippery roller then pin it in place. Velcro rollers stick to the hair as they roll and usually don't require pinning. It gives a nice set that results in a beautiful all over curl.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Set of velcro rollers
  • Mousse or gel
  • Fine tooth comb
  • Time to air dry or a helmet style dryer
  1. Step 1

Wash and condition your hair as usual. Apply whatever styling aid you prefer. Mousse can give you a lighter hold, gel a stronger one. If you use rollers regularly you probably already have a pattern you like to use.

  2. Step 2

The trick to using a roller is to comb out a section of your hair. Part the hair into sections as wide as the roller you're using. The larger the section, the looser the curl. Ideally, a section that is the same width as your roller will work best.

Comb that section with a fine comb, then starting at the end of the strands, begin rolling the hair from the ends to the roots. Rolling it under will give nice loose curl, rolling it up can give you a flipped look, rolling it sideways can give you a corkscrew effect.

If you plan on using this technique on long hair, you made need to use pins. All you do is skewer the roller with the pin when it's all wrapped up. One pin will hold it in place.

  3. Step 3

If you want a few waves, then use large sections and large diameter rollers. Tighter waves are the result of the opposite: smaller sections, smaller rollers. This photo shows the setting for nice, bouncy waves all over the head.

  4. Step 4

Be very careful when you're wrapping longer hair around the rollers, it has a tendency to tangle on the rollers. Avoid this by keeping neat partings and combing each section before rolling. Allow your hair to completely air dry, or sit under an old fashioned dryer. You can buy caps that fit onto your blow dryer that work the same way.

  5. Step 5

When you think it's dry, unroll one of the rollers and test for dampness. Once that tester is dry, then carefully unroll the velcro rollers one by one. They tangle much easier than the normal kind. Here's a hint: hold the roller on each side with your fingers, then pull it as you unroll. It will comb the hair as the roller winds out of the hair.

  6. Step 6

Let it air dry for a few minutes to be sure the hair is cool and the curl has set. Now brush through for a soft look, or do some teasing for a fun going out look. Spray that hair and you're good to go!
