Things You'll Need:
- Replacement Strapping
- Strap pegs or clips
- Flathead screwdriver
-
Step 1
Get enough strapping with holes in the right place and pegs. Use a fabric measuring tape to measure how much strapping you will need by wrapping it around the outside edge of the chair frame, measuring from hole to hole. Measure the distance between the holes the same way. Take these measurements (along with a length of the used strapping with the holes in it) with you to your supplier.
-
Step 2
Prepare the chair for replacement of the strapping. Remove the straps by first cutting them in two using a knife, and then using a screwdriver to pop the clips or pegs holding them in. Clean the frame with warm water and soap, and scrub as needed. Repaint as needed.
-
Step 3
Replace the strapping. Soften the new strapping in hot (but not boiling) water--do not use a hair dyer or heat gun--and anchor one end with the clip or peg. Wrap and peg through the holes in the strapping.
-
Step 4
Cover the pegs. The supplier who sells you the strapping and pegs may well have a special strapping for concealing the pegs.
