Step 1
To unclog a toilet, you first have to get rid of most of the water that is in the bowl(the bowl is what you sit on). You need to keep the bowl about half full of liquid only. Toilet paper, etc needs to be removed.
If the bowl is empty, then you need to put water in it to get it about half full. -
Step 2
Place a toilet plunger (not a sink plunger) over the bowl drain and rapidly move it up and down. If you have moved/opened the drain, the water will go down. You will want to repeat this step at least once more to make sure the clog is gone completely and not just opened up a little.
-
Step 3
If the water does not drain from the bowl, then you need to insert a toilet (plumbing) auger into the bowls drain. Push the auger down until it won't go any down anymore. Turn the handle so that the auger can break through or move the blockage. If you water drains from the toilet bowl, then you will want to do step 2 again, just to make sure the blockage has been removed and not just opened up a little bit.
-
Step 4
If the plunger and/or auger do not open up your toilet drain, you will need to call a plumber. Your clog could be more serious.
