Finding the volume of a sphere may seem like a daunting task. However, all you need is the formula and given information of the problem and you'll be right on your way to solving it!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Formula for the volume of a sphere.
  1. Step 1

In order to solve this problem you will need to know the formula for finding the volume of a sphere. Here it is: V=(4/3)π r to the third power. 'V' stands for volume, 'π' stands for pi (3.14), and 'r' stands for radius.

  2. Step 2

Now that you know what the formula is for solving this thing, all you need to do now is plug any information the problem gives you into the formula. For example, let's say the diameter equals 14. You may wonder, "What does diameter have to do with anything?". Well, it just so happens that half of the diameter of a circle is called the radius!

  3. Step 3

In this case, the radius is 7 (half of 14). Keep in mind that if the radius is already given then you don't need to reduce the diameter, it's already done for you. Now, just plug that into the formula: V=(4/3)π7 to the third power (the third power, or cubed, is a small, raised three). This means to multiply 7 three times: 7X7X7, which equals 343.

  4. Step 4

So now you should have V=(4/3)π 343. Multiply 343 by pi (3.14) which will then give you V= 4/3(1077.02). Multiply 4 into the parenthesis (by 1077.02). Now you will get V= 4308.08/3. Divide 4308.08 by 3 and you will finally have your answer, which is V= 1436 (cm, or km depending on your problem)!
