There are ways to survive a job loss, it isn't easy. Whether you've been downsized or fired, or you've lost your job for some other reason, there are ways to cope, both emotionally and financially.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

It's great if you've saved 6 months living expenses and are all caught up on your bills and have no credit card debt, but most likely you're completely unprepared. You need to start from where you are. Assess what your debts are, your monthy living expenses, and how much money you have to work with.

  2. Step 2

Strat looking for work right away. Don't take a two month break and sit around playing video games, feeling sorry for yourself. There ARE jobs out there, even if you can't find the job you want right away. Take something temporary. Take anything. Work at McDonalds for a few months if you can't find anything else. It's easier to find a job when you already have one. Keep looking for employment, there's work out there to fit your needs for those who are willing to be persistant.

  3. Step 3

If you're having trouble paying for your living expenses while you're out of work, there are plenty of ways to earn extra money. Try babysitting, dog sitting, house sitting, selling your stuff on Ebay, have a yard sale. There are tons of ways to make money online too.

  4. Step 4

Cut out any expenses you can, at least temporarily. Get rid of cable, drive less, use coupons, there are a million ways to save money. Be creative. Think of what's draining your money that you don't absolutely need.
