Step 1
Go to the DMOZ open directory project website.

Read the guidelines for submittal to make sure you are not wasting anyone's time. -
Step 2
DMOZ websiteIf you meet the web site's requirements for submittal go to:

Step 3
Click on the category of your web pageClick on the categories.
Keep clicking on the categories and subcategories until you find the subject area of the webpage or site. For example, for kids online stories you would get to the level shown in the image. -
Step 4
Suggest URLOnce you reach the category that matches the web content click on "Suggest URL".

Step 5
Double check your category is the correct one for your web content.
You will then be asked for additional information.
Enter the following:
Once everything is entered click the "submit" button on the bottom of the page. The site will give you a message indicating that your entry has been submitted.
Enter the site URL
Enter the type of site
Enter a site description
Enter your email address
Enter a user verification code.
The site may ask you other information to complete your entry. -
Step 6
You can use googlerankings.com to check to see if you site is listed with yahoo.com or msn.com search engines. Enter the URL and keywords. You cannot actually check google's ranking unless you have a soap API code.
By following these steps and registering a web site at DMOZ.org your site will move up in the search rankings faster than the normal 3-4 months.
