Semi-automatic pistols can hold a clip with more ammunition than a revolver. Once the first shot is fired, you can continue firing simply by pressing the trigger as needed. Revolvers, on the other hand, can be made smaller and more concealable than many semi-automatics. -
Step 2
Consider your daily routine and likely usage.
Will you carry your concealed weapon every day, for example if you work nights or are in a secluded or dangerous area? Or do you want a gun you can pack as needed? If you plan to carry the pistol daily, consider your customary outfit and what type of weapon will be most concealable. -

Ruger SP101 .357 MagnumTry a revolver, such as the Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum. This gun comes in a barrel as short as 2.25 inches and can be easily concealed within a waistband holster, ankle holster or underarm holster. It is small, more concealable than a full-size gun, and will generally have almost no firing mishaps (i.e. not firing); unlike a semi-automatic weapon.

Scope out pistols at gun stores, pawn shops, firearm shows and wherever guns are sold in your locality. Private sales may be a good way to find a bargain, but make sure you know enough about guns not to get a bad deal.

Try them on the range.
Before buying your concealed carry pistol, make sure it's a good fit for you. Some used gun shops have shooting ranges set up and will allow you to test fire your weapon, or allow you to return it within a short period of time if you take it home, use it and find it does not suit your needs. Go target shooting with a friend who owns several guns and try them all. -
Step 7
Complete the necessary paperwork and training to receive your concealed carry license in your state, if needed.

Anyone ever read freakonimics...there's an interesting stat. in there about swimmingpools being more dangerous per capita than handguns...that being said, lock-up your swimming pools too!!!

on 5/5/2009 Some people prefer full size guns for concealed carry. The Glock 22 is actually a very good option for those who do not wish to have a compact gun, due to large hand size and other considerations. The best way to figure out what gun is right for you is to try a variety of pistols.

on 4/15/2009 Also, from someone who actually carries a concealed gun - a suggesting a Glock 22 is ridiculous. No one who carries will ever carry a full size gun like this. Glock 23 maybe, but more like Glock 27 and the subcompact Glocks.
