Create a Turtle Tank
Create a Turtle Tank

Turtles are amazing reptiles. It's no wonder then why people would want to keep them as pets! But it is extremely important to create a habitat made for your kind of turtle. This article describes a habitat great for water turtles but can work for any turtle.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fish tank or other glass tank
  • water
  • rocks
  • plants
  • soil
  • filter
  1. Step 1

Get a tank. Make sure your tank is large enough for your turtle. The minimum size I suggest you get is 20 gallons. 20 gallons provides enough space for your turtle to live a happy and nice life.

  2. Step 2

Set your tank up. Make sure your filter cleans your water. If it doesn't work, your fish will get sick. When you have water, make sure it at least reaches to the top of your turtle's shell. Before you place your turtle inside the tank, be sure to check the ph balance, nitrates, nitrites, etc. This can all be checked by buying an aquarium water testing sticks.

  3. Step 3

Add your land. Make sure your soil is soft and comfortable for your turtle. Add rocks and plants to make your habitat look great. I suggest plastic plants because it will keep your turtle from eating the plants. Bricks also do a great job.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plastic plants look great and are great for turtles
  • It's important to buy a good filter
  • Be CREATIVE
  • Treat the turtle as you would want to be treated

on 7/4/2009 Great pointers. Turtles are excellent pets. A good balance of sand, rock and water is so important. Always try to recreate the natural habitat is the best bet for sure. Thanks! Mindee
