Things You'll Need:
- Crochet Hook, Matching yarn, Sewing Needle, Fabric Glue
-
Step 1
If you know how to crochet it will make it much easier to repair an item. Especially if you know the stitch or pattern used to make the afghan, hat, sweater, or whatever item that you are repairing.
-
Step 2
Use a crochet hook in the same size that is suitable for the yarn to create the same look as the original project. Try to get matching yarn as close to the same color and weight as the original item. Hopefully if you made the project you will have scrap yarn left over.
-
Step 3
Determine how the crocheted piece became unraveled or damaged. Unraveling is easier to repair then tears in crochet. If it's torn along the seam it will be a quicker repair than in the middle of the item.
-
Step 4
Pull the original yarn if it is still attached to the item so that you have a loose loop to work with. Re-crochet the loose section, and make sure to secure the ends when finished. If you cannot find a loose loop then tie on your replacement yarn in a unidentifiable spot and then re-crochet the damaged or missing area.
-
Step 5
If you are fixing a tear you can apply fabric glue to the edges to prevent further tearing. Sewing ends together also can prevent further damage.
