Clean a Computer

Over time dust and junk start to accumulate in your PC. Mostly Towers and desktops, but also laptops too. When your computer starts to get all clogged with dust, the cooling system that is in your computer (fans, heat sinks, etc) tend not to work as efficient as it should, causing the system to heat up. This heat up can destroy a computers internal parts. This is why we need to make sure that the inside of the computer stays dust free as possible.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Canned air
  1. Step 1

When dealing with dust you know that static electricity is not to far behind it, thats why it is good to have some canned air around the house for such an occasion. They do make vacuums to that do the same job but those tend to cost more money then canned air so that usually the goto for most people.

  2. Step 2

Now that we have are cleaning agent(canned air or a static free vacuum) we are ready to clean. If you are using the canned air then it is advisable that you blow out the computer in a well vented area and presumably in an area that you don't mind getting dusty(usually outside or the garage). We want to take off the cover of the machine and the spray the canned air into the machine removing all the dust. make sure that you use short bursts of air. usually when the can starts to get cold its blowing power decreases. The areas that you want to focus on the most are all the fans the heat-sink and the power supply vents.

  3. Step 3

Now that the system is all clean you can set it up and not have to worry about it for awhile. It is a good idea to get into a habit of cleaning out you computer a couple times a year just as a preventive maintenance for your computer. If you live in a duster house (houses on dirt roads) you might want to get into the habit of do it more frequently.

Tips & Warnings
  • make sure that you hit the fans the heat sink and the power-supply the best.
  • Do not use a regular household vacuum on the system unless you don't want it to work anymore.
  • Keep the canned air away from kids. It Dose contain harmful gases in it. Make sure you read the direction on the can for proper use of that particular product.
