Things You'll Need:
- Apples
- Carrots
-
Step 1
To make friends with a horse, you want to be careful not to scare them. Be sure they see you, and anything you are carrying. Horses do not see straight ahead like humans. Look at the horse. Notice the eyes are on the side of the nose, not in the front.
-
Step 2
Slice an apple, and put in a bowl or on a plate. Walk towards the fence, and the horse probably will come toward you. Hold your hand out flat, and place a apple slice on your palm. Be careful to keep you thumb out of the way. Horses will bite, thinking your thumb is part of the treat.
-
Step 3
Carrots are another alternative. I slice those as well. Once you give a treat to a horse, he will see you coming and high tail it toward you every time.
-
Step 4
After you make friends with a horse, you want to be consistent. They will remember what you do. Try placing pieces of apple on the fence posts, and watch the horse walk from post to post for their treat.
