To work as a real estate agent, someone need to go to real estate licensing school, usually takes about 2 weeks for full time or 4 weeks for part time school (about 60 hours) to learn everything about the process involve in buying or selling properties, real estate law, state law, etc.

After finishing real estate licensing school then they need to pass national and state examination to get their real estate license. If they don't pass the examination for the first time, they can take it again in the near future, however they need to pay fee every time they take another test.

License real estate agent can talk to real estate broker to work in the real estate brokerage firm. Every real estate brokerage firms have different ways how they conduct business and how they split the commission.

Most real estate licenses expire within two years and need to be renewed by taking 8 hours continuing real estate education. Someone who is interested to become real estate agent can talk to particular brokerage firm he or she want to work and go to real estate licensing school base on their suggestion.
