Things You'll Need
- Sifter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 sticks butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Rolling pin
- Cookie cutter
- Sheet pan
- Cooking spray

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Sift together your flour, baking soda and baking powder in a bowl.

Place your butter in a bowl and beat it with an electric mixer until it's creamy. Slowly add your sugar, mixing until the ingredients are well combined.

Add your eggs to the mixture one by one and mix only until they're combined after each addition.

Add your buttermilk to the mixture and beat until the ingredients are combined.

Add flour mixture to a bowl slowly, beating only until the dry ingredients are incorporated into the wet ingredients after each addition. A soft dough should form after you add all of the dry ingredients.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Rub your rolling pin with flour and roll the dough out to a 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut the dough into desired shapes with a cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

Place the baking sheet inside the oven and bake the tea cakes for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are brown around the edges.
