Iron-on Transfer

Iron-On transfers are great when you want a creative t-shirt, but you don't want to be limited by what stores have to offer. Iron-On transfers are fun, cheap, and extremely easy to do.

For this past Halloween, I was attempting to be Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers. I had the dreadlock wig, baseball glove, and hat, but was missing a jersey. I decided, instead of spending $100 on a Dodgers jersey, I would just create my own Iron-On transfer t-shirt jersey.

My jersey and costume was so convincing that people came up to me and said, "Hey Manny, can't wait to have you as a Yankee." Haha, in your dreams.

This tutorial will show you how to create an awesome Iron-On transfer t-shirt. All of the supplies needed can be bought at a Target, Staples, Wal-mart, or stores of the similar nature. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Purchase your Iron-On transfer set.

Next, create or download the image that you want to use in order to put on the Iron-On transfer t-shirt. You can use programs such as MS Paint, Print Artist, Photoshop, or even download free software directly from Avery that will give you templates and ideas.

When your image is perfect, make sure to test out a sample of it on a regular blank piece of paper before you waste your Iron-On transfer paper.

If the image is what you were looking for, follow the instructions on how to load the transfer paper into the printer, and then print.

Lay the blank t-shirt down flat on the ironing board. Place something on the inside the shirt so that the transfer won't go through to both sides.

Heat up the iron, and make sure to have no water in it. You are using the iron just for the heat.

Place the Iron-On transfer paper image facing down onto the shirt.

When the iron is hot, begin to press the image onto the shirt. Make small circles while pressing, and press for at least 60 seconds.

    • 4

Wait at least a few minutes to let the transfer set. After it has cooled down, slowly remove the paper backing carefully by peeling from the corners.

Make sure that everything looks right!

Your shirt is ready to go!
