Things You'll Need:
- garbage disposal kit
- water pump pliers
- screwdriver
- hammer
-
Step 1
Get dishes and food particles cleaned from the sink.
-
Step 2
Decide which side of the sink the disposal is going into.
-
Step 3
Remove the drain. Do this by removing drain pipes from the bottom of the sink. In the bottom of the sink the actual drain has a large nut holding it in place. Remove that nut and remove the drain from the bottom of the sink. The sink should have nothing but a hole in it on that side. Go back under the sink and if there was a long drain pipe, remove that as well to give yourself room to work.
-
Step 4
In your garbage disposal kit should be a new drain for the sink, similar to the one that is removed except it has a flange that attaches to the garbage disposal. Install the drain using the removal steps in reverse. Insure that all rubber gaskets are in place!
-
Step 5
Once drain is securely tightened to the sink, lift the garbage disposal unit to the drain. There should be a matching set of flanges so that once it is in position all you have to do is twist the flanges and it attaches itself to the drain.
-
Step 6
Reattach the drain piping, minus the pea trap to the outlet of the garbage disposal. This may take some adjustment in the other pipes.
-
Step 7
Double check that all of your connections are tight.
-
Step 8
Run water through the sink checking for leaks. Once the leak check is complete and there are no leaks, connect power.
-
Step 9
Once power is connected, put food in sink and run disposal and make sure everything is working properly.
