How to Make a Kitten Scratching Post
If your kitten is already scratching your furniture, curtains, and carpets you need to make a scratching post fast. Bad habits are hard to break in cats. Your kitten is growing fast; if you do not intervene soon your furnishings could be left in ruins? Try to make this simple scratching post before you have your kitten declawed, or toss it outside to live in a desperate act. If your kitten prefers using the scratching post, you may solve your problem and save your furnishings from destruction. How do you make a kitten scratching post?
Things You'll Need
- 4-foot-by-4-foot piece of wood about 18-inches long
- Carpet remnant
- Plywood 12-inches-by-12-inches
- Staple gun
- Carpet remnant 16-inches-by-18-inches
- Staples
- Cat Toy
- Catnip
- Nails (10)
- Large Spring about 2-inches long
- Carpet Glue

Spread carpet glue on the four long sides of the 4-by-4 piece of wood you will use to make your kitten scratching post, but not on the ends. You may want to use an old paintbrush.

Wrap the carpet remnant around the 4-by-4 covered in glue.

Use your staple gun to secure the carpet remnant to the wood. Be sure to staple along the edges where the two sides of the carpet meet about every inch. This will help hold the carpet in place while the glue dries.

Nail the 10-inch-by-10-inch piece of plywood onto one end of the 4-by-4 so it will stand up, allowing your kitten to scratch it without tipping over. Use several nails to prevent loosening.
