Things You'll Need:
- Water hose
- Cartridge filter cleaner
- Muriatic acid (optional)
-
Step 1
Turn the pool pump off. You will not be able to remove the cartridges with the water circulating. Remove the band around the filter tank or take lose the bolts that hold the two halves together.
-
Step 2
Bioguard Kleen-ItRemove all the filters inside the filter tank. Usually between 1 and 4.
Use a water hose and rinse any loose debris off. Add a filter cleaner usually a spray bottle, and allow to sit for several minutes. This will remove all of the body oils and lotions that have been trapped by the filter. -
Step 3
After 10-15 minutes, rinse the filter cleaner off the cartridges really well. Use your thumb and the water hose to get some pressure to get rid of the built up gunk. A pressure washer can be used as well on a low setting as to not damage the filters.
-
Step 4
OPTIONAL You can follow up with a muriatic acid treatment after the filter cleaner to clean the filters even more. Simply pour the liquid acid over the filter over an area that is safe (rock bed or sewer) and rinse again with water hose. Refer to my website chrisspoolpage.com for more information.
