How to Clean Swimming Pool Cartridge Filters
A swimming pool provides a quick vacation only a few steps out your backdoor. While pools are a great way to relax, they also require regular maintenance to run properly and extend the life of their components. Keeping the water clean is one of the most important duties. This job is assisted with a set of sand and cartridge filters which remove the dirt and keep the water clear. Cleaning the filters is done when your pool system reaches 8 to 10 psi of pressure. Remove the cartridge from the filter housing by following the manufacturer's directions.

Hold the cartridge filter vertically. Use a hose with a nozzle to remove the dirt. Spray from the top down, at a 45-degree angle, working the dirt out as you go. Repeat this process until all the dirt is removed.

Mix the commercial filter cleaning agent with the recommended amount of water in a bucket. Submerge the filter in the water so that it is completely covered and allow it to sit overnight. This removes the oils that have built up in the filter.

Rinse the filter thoroughly until all of the chemicals are removed. Reinstall the filter in the filter housing reversing the process you used to remove it.
