Learn how to cut expenses to make life a little more endurable during a difficult economy crisis.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Staple Foods
  • Candles
  • Friends or Family
  • Access to the internet
  1. Step 1

You can start by buying staple foods that will help you get along. This would be a good time to stock up on vegetables and whole chickens/turkeys and learn how to prepare them. Keeping liquid that vegetables or turkeys/chickens were cooked in can be reused as a soup later to stretch for another meal. Soups like those also have health benefits which will keep you healthy longer, and that saves you on doctor bills.

  2. Step 2

Candles, oil lamps and human-powered lights also save money. Candle wax can be made from the fat of an animal and vegetable oil is readily available but it also versatile in the kitchen and rest of the home which makes it a good purchase during tough times. Making home-made candles/oil lamps in a pinch are easy and fast, which is also a money saving option.

  3. Step 3

Getting together with friends or family for potluck meals or sharing carpools is also a way to cut down the tightening sensation around your belt during a depression. Socializing during difficult times enhances the mood of those involved and leaves you less likely to fall into a personal depression.

  4. Step 4

Access to the internet allows you several options, such as being able to pay your bills online. Paying online lets you save envelope, stamp and gas money while still sitting in your pajamas. Getting access to your account online also lets you check your statements without waiting till the end of the month. There are also websites such as Skype which works as a home phone used through internet that could possibly lower your bill if you chose to go with that service. Also setting up a pay-as-you-go phone is handy, as it will keep you from spending over your minutes and only charge if you agree to it. With many TV shows, series, etc now being available for download off of the internet, you may also be able to cancel your TV bill and just download episodes while you are at work and watch them when you get home, since usually people don't watch all the TV shows available on a given network.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to let candles sit unattended.
  • Tofu is much cheaper than other meats. If you can learn to prepare it in a tasty meal, it is cheaper and just as good as other more expensive cuts from the store!
  • Try to purchase your foods at a local produce store. Some stores gather their produce from people who grow it locally and this could save you money from the commerically produced goods at the grocery store.
