How to Make Your Own Perfume

Learn how to make your own high quality perfumes at home using essential oils and supplies easily found in most craft shops.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Essential Oil (Blood Orange, Magnolia, and Cedar)
  • Alcohol Base for perfume making (found in many crafting stores)
  • 4 pipettes
  • decorative perfume bottle
  1. Step 1

Make sure you have all of your materials in front of you on a stain resistant surface. Wear gloves and protective eye gear, to assure personal safety when handling any perfume making supplies.

  2. Step 2

Add alcohol base to perfume bottle, making sure to only fill it a little over half, meaning you will have about sixty percent alcohol base, to forty percent essential oil.

  3. Step 3

Experiment with your three scents. In this recipe we are using Blood Orange, Magnolia, and Cedar. Start with mixing variations of the oils in each pipette, experimenting with desired scents. Once you have decided on the ideal scent, record how many drops (or how full the pipette is) of the desired combination of oils. Now repeat this final step, emptying the pipette into the perfume bottle with the alcohol base, until the bottle is full. Tightly close the container and shake gently, allowing the oils to softly mix with the base. Let the perfume sit for forty-eight hours, before use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear protective gloves and eye gear when working with essential oils and other caustic materials.
  • Never limit yourself to the amount of variations you can experiment with while using essential and scented oils when you make perfumes or other body products.
  • Never put pure essential oils directly on the skin without being mixed with some form of carrying agent like alcohol base or carrier oils.
  • Use good judgment in choosing essential oils, and take allergies into consideration.
  • Never use final product without performing a small patch test for allergic reactions.
