Adding hair extensions to your hair is a way to add both length and volume to your existing hair. Bonding is a method of applying hair extensions. It consists of gluing hair or synthetic hair that is sewn into long strips into your existing hair. The bonding glue dries clear and is waterproof so that the hair can be washed and treated like normal hair. Application of glue bond extensions can be done at home with help from a friend.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rat-tail comb Hair elastics or clips Scissors Blow dryer (optional)
  1. Step 1

Start with clean, dry, unconditioned hair. There should be no oils or residue on the hair at all for best bonding.

  2. Step 2

Separate a narrow section of hair along the hairline at the nape of your neck with the tail of a comb. Put a hair elastic or clip around it to keep it out of the way.

  3. Step 3

Make another part from ear to ear slightly above the section of hair that is already separated. Tie all the hair above the part out of your way. You now have all of the hair tied back except a narrow strip running horizontally across the back of your head.

  4. Step 4

Cut a length of hair weft that reaches almost ear to ear but leave it a little short on each end so that your natural hair will hide the edges.

  5. Step 5

Run a thin bead of bonding glue along the edge of the weft and wait a few moments for the glue to become tacky.

  6. Step 6

Press the weft onto the hair near the scalp along the part line. The weft should not be touching the scalp.

  7. Step 7

Run a blow dryer over the glued portion for a few seconds to heat seal the glue. Keep moving the dryer to avoid burning any hair or glue. This step is optional. The glue will bond without any heat but it will make the bond stronger.

  8. Step 8

Repeat this process, moving part by part, until you have added as much hair as you want.
