Measure your couch on the front, back and sides to determine how much fabric you will need. The best and fastest way to measure is to drape the fabric over the couch, letting in hang on all sides then marking the fabric where it needs to be cut. Pin it to the couch with sewing pins to hold it in place while you cut. Cut the fabric, but leave a 1 1/2-inch overhang on all sides for the seams. Durable fabrics which can also be laundered are the best choices. Microfibers are some of the most popular and durable fabrics on the market today. They can be spot cleaned or washed in the washing machine to remove stains quickly.

Turn the fabric under, and sew a 7/8-inch seam all around the bottom to hem the fabric. You can add decorative trim around the bottom of the slip cover, if you wish. Fabric and craft stores carry decorative trims in many different styles and colors. Rope trim is popular for couches and pillows and is inexpensive and easy to apply. You can sew it on or use a hot glue gun or fabric glue to apply.

Return the slip cover to the couch and begin tucking it into the sides and around the back until you have the look you want. Use the spiral upholstery pins to hold the slip cover in place. This will prevent the fabric from slipping and becoming untucked when your guests sit on the couch.
