Cable internet is quickly becoming the most popular form of Internet connection due to its high speed and easy accessibility (since homes are already set up for TV cable access). Charter is a provider of cable Internet services; the process of setting up a Charter cable connection to allow several computers to access the Internet is the same as for other cable Internet connections.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ethernet cables Ethernet cards
  1. Step 1

Connect the charter cable modem to your Internet hub with an Ethernet cord.

  2. Step 2

Connect all other computers to the hub with Ethernet cords.

  3. Step 3

Turn on the charter cable modem, the hub and the computers.

  4. Step 4

Run the network setup wizard on each of the computers on the network. To access the wizard, go to the Start menu, open the Control Panel, then click on "Network connects/Network sharing center." Then choose "Network setup wizard" or "Set up/manage a home network."

  5. Step 5

After the network setup wizard is complete, restart each computer.

Tips & Warnings
  • A hub does not provide a firewall for your computers, so each computer should be running its own firewall software and antivirus software. A network can also be set up with a main computer connected directly to the cable modem, and an extra Ethernet card to send the connection out to a hub to which other computers are connected.
