How to Clamp Together a Twin Bed Frame
If you are like a lot of people, you have a set of twin beds in the house either left over from children who have grown and left the house, or maybe you picked them up from a yard sale. For whatever reason, the beds sit there. You can convert them to be a nice big king-sized bed by sliding them together and bolting them to each other. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Electric drill 3/8 drill bit 4 3/8-inch wide 3 inch long carriage bolts 4 3/8-inch wing nut 4 3/8-inch washers

1
Slide the beds together and hold them in place by tying the ends together or placing heavy objects against the legs or even using wood clamps if you have them. Remove the mattresses and any bedding so that you can see and access the joined side rails of both of the beds.
-
2
Mark 4 holes spaced evenly apart on the inside of the side rails that are pressed together. The holes should be about 2 inches down from the top of the rail and at least 6 inches from the ends of the bed.

3
Drill the holes with your electric drill straight through both side rails. If your drill bit is too short, you can always drill through one side and then the other. Clean up any sawdust created.
-
4
Slide the carriage bolt straight through both side rails. If it is tight, tight it in place with a hammer. Slip on the washer and the wing nut. Tighten until firm but do not over-tighten. You don't want the wood to crack. Do all 4 bolts, washers and wing nuts.

5
Replace the mattresses and use the now larger bed as normal. There are mattress cases that are designed to hold two twin beds, forming a king sized bed without a crack down the middle.
