How to Make a Pregnancy Calendar or Book for a Big Brother

Making a pregnancy calendar or book for a big brother can involve him in the development and arrival of his new brother or sister. Children do not always understand the impact of a pregnancy and may have trouble imagining that a real person is actually growing inside of mommy's tummy. The pregnancy calendar helps a big brother to follow the baby's development and be familiar with the stages so that when it's time for the baby to be born, big brother will be ready.

Create calendar pages for each month of the pregnancy. Most books on pregnancy come with photos of the different stages of development that you can use for a basis. Be sure that the due date on the calendar or book calendar is highlighted in red.

Include keyword activities. You can create word finds, crosswords and puzzle activities that focus on elements of the baby's development for that month.

    • 3

Leave a couple of blank pages between each calendar set. You'll want to have a page where your son can write his thoughts or experiences down. This is a good place for him to write out his favorite stories, music and activities. Tell him to keep a list of things to share with baby brother or sister.

Save ultrasound photos. Ask your doctor to give you a couple of ultrasound printouts. One printout for you and your spouse, the other for big brother's calendar book

Create a baby name section. While big brother may not pick out his sibling's name, let him feel like part of the process. Have him write down name suggestions and why he likes them. Then include him in the discussions. The more involved he is, the more attached to the baby he will become before the baby arrives.
