How To Clean Dog Kennels With Bleach or Soap

A clean dog kennel is important for the health and safety of a dog. A dog that is allowed to live or sleep in an unclean kennel may suffer health problems due to the bacteria and germs that can breed in a dirty kennel.
Choose a sunny day and take your dog's kennel outside to give it a good disinfecting scrub-down. Here are some guidelines for cleaning a dog kennel and making it sparkle.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Washing machine and dryer Clothesline (optional) Dish washing soap Water Empty spray bottle Paper towels Garbage bag Garden hose Scrubbing brush
  1. Step 1

    Remove the bedding from the kennel. If the bedding is machine washable, run it through the washing machine and dryer to clean it. If it is not machine washable, shake it well and hang it outside on a clothesline to air in the sun.

  2. Step 2

    Combine one part dish washing soap and eight parts hot water. Pour the mixture into a the spray bottle.

  3. Step 3

    Clean any obvious urine or feces messes in the kennel with paper towels. Dispose of the soiled paper towels into the garbage bag.

  4. Step 4

    Move the kennel outside. Spray the inside of the kennel completely with the cleaning mixture. Allow to sit for 10 minutes soaking.

  5. Step 5

    Wipe off the cleaning mixture with paper towels.

  6. Step 6

    Survey the kennel to see if it is sufficiently clean. If messes remain, spray the inside and outside of the kennel with a garden hose. Use the scrub brush to clean off any messes. Spray the kennel again to rinse.

  7. Step 7

    Allow the kennel to dry in the sun.

  8. Step 8

    Replace the clean bedding into the kennel and place the kennel back where it belongs.
