Use iTunes Ringtones

You can purchase ringtones from iTunes for use on your cellular phone simply by downloading iTunes software from the Apple website. ITunes offers a variety of ringtones for downloading at a mere 99 cents per ringtone. For iPhone owners, the iTunes ringtones can be transferred onto the phone for immediate use by syncing the phone with the software. For any other brand of cell phone, the use of the iTunes ringtones requires a USB data connection.

  1. Step 1

Download the iTunes software from apple.com (see Resources below).

Choose a ringtone to purchase from iTunes's large catalog of available ringtones. You can either search for a specific ringtone, or click on the link to the ringtones on the right side of the homepage. Enter your iTunes username and password and agree to all purchase conditions. You will be prompted to enter a credit card number, which will be charged when your purchase is complete.

  3. Step 3

Sync your iPhone with the iTunes software. Plug the USB connector that came with your iPhone to your computer. The iPhone will immediately connect to the iTunes software and transfer the purchased ringtones onto your phone. You can also manually transfer the ringtones by choosing which ringtones you want and then clicking "sync." In order to use the ringtone, go to the "Settings" application on your iPhone, then proceed to the subsection labeled "sounds" and set the ringtone to your phone.

  4. Step 4

Download the DataPilot software if you do not have an iPhone. This will enable you to transfer iTunes ringtones onto your personal cell phone regardless of make and model (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

Install the DataPilot software on your computer. Connect your cell phone to your computer with the USB cable. The software will automatically locate your cell phone and sync it with your computer. Then you will be able to upload the ringtones from iTunes to your phone.
