Essential lavender oil is used in aromatherapy for its relaxation properties. A drop of lavender oil applied to your pillow at night will help you to get a peaceful night's sleep. Dab a drop of the oil under your nose when you are stressed and feel the calming sensation sweep over you. Apply a few drops of essential lavender oil to a washcloth and place it in your drawer to give your clothes a pleasing aroma. Put the washcloth in your clothes dryer instead of a commercial dryer sheet to add a touch of scent to your finished laundry. The possible uses for your homemade essential lavender oil are numerous.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small wide bowl Cheesecloth Carrier oil Lavender flowers
  1. Step 1

Purchase a carrier oil from the health food store. The extraction process to make lavender essential oil requires a carrier oil. Almond oil, apricot oil and jojoba oil are three popular carrier oils to choose from.

  2. Step 2

Pour 1 cup of your carrier oil in a small but wide bowl.

  3. Step 3

Place fresh lavender flowers in the bowl, using enough flowers to fully cover the top of the oil. The flowers will float on top of the oil. The oil will draw out the oils from the lavender flowers.

  4. Step 4

Cover the bowl with a piece of cheesecloth. The cheesecloth will allow the oil to get air flow while keeping insects out.

  5. Step 5

Let the flower and oil sit overnight.

  6. Step 6

Remove the lavender flowers from the oil and add new fresh lavender flowers. Let the flowers sit overnight. Remove the old flowers and replace them with new flowers each day for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, you will have successfully made essential lavender oil.
