How to Build a Gun Carrying Case
-
1
Cut pieces of wood to make the shell of the box. You'll need two 12-x-12 inch planks and eight 2 1/2-x-12 inch walls.
-
2
Make two "trays" by gluing the walls to the planks. You should end up with separate pieces resembling small drawers.
-
-
3
Stain the two halves of your case before attaching the hinges or lock.
-
4
Put together the two pieces, open end to open end, and tack the planks to the walls at the edges.
-
5
Apply caulking to the inner walls at the connection to the planks for waterproofing.
-
6
Place the two halves together and screw on 3-inch full mortis hinges 2 inches inward from the case edges. The hinges should end up being 2 inches apart.
-
7
On one of the walls of the unhinged side, attach an attaché lock. On the other free wall, attach the lock receiver.

8
Cut two 12 1/2-x-12 1/2 inch squares of 2-inch thick gray foam. Attach foam to the inner planks of the case with rubber cement.

Tips & Warnings
For added protection, apply a band of weatherstripping to the inner rim of the case. Make sure you allow for the stripping before you attach the lock and the hinges.
