Styles are predefined settings for different types of text. In your document you might use one Style for headings, another Style for body text and a third Style for bulleted lists. Microsoft Word contains dozens of Styles. These Styles may be modified to meet your own preference, or you may create new, unique Styles of your own. Using Styles throughout your document helps to keep the formatting consistent and creates a polished and professional look. You can easily apply any Style to your text in Word. Here's how:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2007
  1. Step 1

Locate the Styles box on the Home tab.

  2. Step 2

Place your cursor in a paragraph of text. Your cursor can be in the middle of a paragraph or on the first letter in the document. The Style you select will be applied to all the text in that paragraph.

  3. Step 3

Hover over a Style in the Styles box to preview what the text will look like when formatted to match that Style.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Down" arrow in the Styles box to scroll through additional Styles.

  5. Step 5

Click on a Style, like Heading 1, that you want to apply to the text. The text changes to reflect the Style you selected. That's all there is to it.
