While a gift card is a convenient solution when you are uncertain of what to get someone as a gift, your next dilemma may lie in how to present the gift card to your recipient. If slipping the gift card in an attractively colored, ready-made envelope feels too impersonal to you, choose from the options listed here for a variety of ways to add creativity to wrapping your gift cards.

From Quick Guide: House Warming Gift Basics
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Give the gift card a personal touch by making an envelope for it yourself (see Resources for how-to videos). This way you can pick what kind and color of paper to use to match the personality of your recipient. You can tie a thin ribbon around the envelope or seal it and stick a small bow on it as a finishing touch.

  2. Step 2

Get a bear or other stuffed animal specifically made to hold a gift card. Such a stuffed toy has a slot in its hands for a gift card; you may also find one wearing a backpack or pouch for the gift card. After slipping the gift card in the holder, you can put the bear in the appropriately sized gift box or in gift tissue inside a gift bag. A gift box, or gift tissue and a gift bag can be used as well for Steps 3, 4 and 5.

  3. Step 3

Put the gift card in a wallet or clutch. Slide the card into the transparent slot where the driver's license or identification card is typically placed.

  4. Step 4

Find an item from the area of interest the gift card is specifically geared toward, if any. For instance, you can put a gift card for cosmetics and personal care items inside a small toiletry case. A gift card meant to be used at a clothing store can be inserted in the pocket of a shirt.

  5. Step 5

Look for a pouch or container that matches the occasion. For example, you can slip the gift card into a heart-shaped tin filled with chocolates for Valentine's Day, or stuff the gift card in a small stocking if it is meant to be a holiday present.

  6. Step 6

Place the gift card inside a clear balloon made for stuffing presents in. You may include other items--such as candy or flowers--inside the balloon, or put the gift card bear from Step 2 inside it instead. This is convenient if you know of any store or individual who offers balloon stuffing; you may also consider investing in a balloon-stuffing kit or machine (see Resources for an example) if you are interested in earning money through this service, or perhaps want to make it your signature method of wrapping gift cards and other presents.
