How to Install a GE Dryer Belt
If you have a load of laundry in the dryer, then the last thing you want to hear from the laundry room is an explosion. If you do hear a loud bang, then it probably indicates that the dryer belt has snapped. If the dryer drum--the big metal canister that holds your clothes--has stopped turning, then this is definitely the case. Fortunately, installing a GE dryer belt is quite simple, and you will save quite a bit of time and money by doing the job yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Disconnect the power to your dryer before you begin replacing your dryer belt. Either disconnect from the wall outlet or from the fuse box by removing the fuse that controls the dryer. You can flip the breaker in the circuit breaker box to disconnect as well. The circuit breaker box will be labeled as to which fuse and breaker controls which appliances. Either one of these ways can be used to disconnect the dryer.

2
Remove the broken belt. To access the belt, open the top of your dryer and tilt it backward. Remove the top two screws in the drum using a Philips head screwdriver. Put the screws in a safe place so they don't get lost or fall down into the dryer. This will allow you to tilt the front of the drum forward and roll the belt around the drum.

3
Lift the drum slightly in order to give way to the front supports. You may have to open the dryer door to help the broken belt fall to the bottom of the basket. Once you have retrieved the broken belt you can discard it.
-
4
Position the belt by aligning it into the correct position before beginning to thread it through the motor pulley and idler. Push the belt through much like you would thread a needle. The dryer belt in a GE dryer has to be threaded looking in from the back.
-
5
Restore the dryer. Replace the screws that you had put away back in the top of your dryer using the Philips head screwdriver. Close the top and slide the dryer back against the wall.
-
6
Reconnect the power to your dryer either by plugging the dryer into the wall outlet, replacing the fuse or flipping the breaker in your circuit box according to the way you disconnected your dryer.
