If you have an Apple iPod, you most likely have iTunes installed on your computer (although you can use iTunes without ever owning an iPod). Apple iTunes allows you to import, download, store and organize music and video files and purchase content from the iTunes Store. When it's time to upgrade or replace your computer, you will want to take your iTunes library with you. One way to do this is to transfer the library to a flash drive and import it into the new computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open iTunes and click "Edit" on the menu bar. Select "Preferences..." then click the "Advanced" tab. Write down or remember the library folder location shown in the upper portion of this window.

  2. Step 2

Insert your flash drive into an open USB port on your computer.

  3. Step 3

If you are using Windows XP or earlier, open "My Computer." If you are using a different operating system, open your system's file browser.

  4. Step 4

Locate the drive-letter icon for your flash drive and drag and drop the iTunes library folder to it.

  5. Step 5

"Deauthorize" the old computer and "Authorize" the new computer to play content purchased from the iTunes Store using the "Store" menu in iTunes.
