Whey protein powder is one of the most popular protein powders on the market today. It comes in many flavors and it comes in many differently sized containers including individual packets. Whey protein is generally used by weight lifters and people who are just trying to get more protein in their diets for health reasons or because they are following specific diet recommendations. With all this being said, there are many creative ways that whey protein can be consumed.

        Take it straight. The quickest and easiest way to consume whey protein is by taking it by itself. To do this you will need the help of a shaker cup. Put one to two scoops of whey protein in the cup, add water, snap or screw the lid back on, shake it up and drink it. You can also just put some powder in a bowl, add a little bit of water and swirl it around until you have a pudding-like consistency.

        Make a smoothie. This is done with a blender. In addition to the regular ingredients, put in a scoop of whey protein. Here is an example of a recipe: 12 oz. of water, 1 banana, 1 tbsp. of peanut butter, 1 scoop of whey protein, 1/2 cup of frozen berries and 3 ice cubes.

        Add it to your cereal bowl. Whey protein powder can be added to any hot cereal such as oatmeal, oat bran, rice bran or even cold cereal. An example of a recipe is oatmeal with peanut butter and protein powder. This meal offers a balance of protein, carbs and essential fats.

        Mash it to a pulp. Here is a way to get some more fruit and protein in your diet at the same time. Take a banana and place it in a bowl. Add one scoop of whey protein, 1/2 cup of fresh berries and a drizzle of honey or agave syrup. Mash it all together with a spoon and fork. It will turn into a thick, cake batter-like consistency.

        Have an evening snack. Whey protein also goes well with cottage cheese. Take a cup of cottage cheese and put it into a bowl. Add 1 scoop of whey protein powder, 1 tbsp. of sunflower seeds, 1 tbsp. of honey, 1 tbsp. of blueberries and a few shakes of cinnamon. Mix it all together.

If you have a flavored yogurt and you are satisfied with the taste then simply add the whey to it and mix it up. If you have unflavored yogurt and you want to liven the taste up a bit, then add some seeds, chopped nuts, granola or fruit. Also take into consideration the flavor of your protein powder when you are making mixtures.

        Add it to your baked goods. One of the best ways to consume whey protein is by adding some into your favorite dishes such as cake, cookies, muffins, pies, cheesecake and frozen desserts. You can also make a fruit dip by blending some cottage cheese, yogurt, vanilla extract and whey protein together.

    • When making protein drinks and smoothies, you can substitute water for milk or milk alternatives. It really just depends on your caloric goals. When making a smoothie, put ice cubes in to make it more frothy. Make sure to put them in last and while the ingredients are already in motion. Take the fill cap out of the lid and drop the cubes in one at a time.
