How to Make a Bow for a Wreath

If you have been in awe of those beautiful bows on gift packages but never knew how to make them, you can learn the easiest way possible to accomplish the task. Children and adults alike can make these simple bows using the barest of essentials. No expensive equipment is needed, just a willingness to try your hand at making them.

Things You'll Need

• 6-inch piece of cardboard Scissors Ribbon Tape or stapler Twist ties

Instructions

1. 

   Place the cardboard on a flat surface and mark a 1/2-inch line from each of two ends using a pencil. Use the scissors to cut 3/4 of the way in on each side of the marked edges. The cut cardboard should still be attached to the main piece.

2. 

   Fold each end of the cut pieces toward one another and tape or staple the ends together so there are two pieces in the upright position.

3. 

   Hold a length of ribbon on the cardboard surface and wrap the remainder of the the ribbon around the cardboard posts at least four times.

4. 

   Slide the loose end of the ribbon you are wrapping under the length of ribbon and under the wrapped ribbon to secure the bow. Make sure to hold the first loose end while doing this step.

5. 

   Tie the loops in the center by making a knot. Slide the bow off the cardboard posts. Flip the loose bow over and secure the knot. Slide a twist tie underneath the knot. Twist the tie in place.

6. 

   Gently pull the wrapped pieces of ribbon from within one another. Puff and turn them with your fingers. Trim the loose ribbon ends on a diagonal slant with scissors.

Tips & Warnings

• The larger the bow, the more times you will need to wrap the ribbon around the posts.
