Rock candy is a hard candy that looks like gemstones. It is simple to make at home, which is good because it is difficult to find in stores.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup water 2 cups granulated white sugar Food coloring Saucepan Spoon Plastic bowl container Colander Paper towels
  1. Step 1

Pour the water into a saucepan.

  2. Step 2

Stir in the sugar and food coloring until the sugar is almost completely dissolved.

  3. Step 3

Cook on medium heat. Continue stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  4. Step 4

Remove from the heat source and allow to cool completely.

  5. Step 5

Pour into a plastic container and allow it to sit for about 10 days. The water will evaporate over the time, and colored crystals will form.

  6. Step 6

Turn the plastic container over a colander and allow the remaining moisture to drain away.

  7. Step 7

Break the sugar crystals into bite-size pieces and place on a paper towel to dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Arrange different colors of rock candy in jar with a pretty ribbon for a gift.
  • Be careful working with the hot syrup mixture because it can burn.
