How to Plug an MP3 Player Into a Bass Amp

Musicians take their equipment seriously. One of the best features about bass amps that allow input connections is the ability to connect an MP3 player to the amp. This allows you to jam along with your favorite music, getting a better handle on the song you are playing, whether it is for serious practice or a little relaxing fun. The "Y" cable that connects the MP3 player to the bass amp takes the stereo signal from the MP3 player and converts it to a mono signal as it comes through the amp. Connecting the MP3 player to the amp is simple. You will be plugged in and ready to play in no time.

Things You'll Need

• MP3 player RCA "Y" cable Bass amp with line input

Instructions

1. 

   Plug the "Y" end of the Y cable to the bass amp. This is done through the CD input ports. Match colored ends to colored port.

2. Connect the single end to the headphone output jack of the MP3 player.

3. Power on the MP3 player.

4. Adjust the volume level of the signal coming from the bass amp with the volume control on the MP3 player.

• Before turning the MP3 player on, check the volume of the bass amp to prevent damage to the speaker.

• Before buying a Y cable, check the CD line "in" jack on your bass amp to be sure you purchase the right fit, as there are many different styles of Y cables.
