You can make your own fresh flower boutonniere.

There are many occasions that call for a fresh flower boutonniere, from proms and weddings to funerals and religious ceremonies. Fresh flower boutonnieres are easy to make and very inexpensive, so knowing how to make one can come in handy. With one single flower, some baby's breath, floral tape and a pin, you can make a simple fresh flower boutonniere that is perfect for your special occasion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 rosebud Baby's breath Floral tape 1 hat pin or straight pin
  1. Step 1

Clip the stem of the rosebud for the boutonniere to 3/4 to 1 inch. The stem will be used to tape the boutonniere together as well as attach the boutonniere to the lapel.

  2. Step 2

Cut the stem of the baby's breath for the boutonniere to 3/4 to 1 inch. This stem should be the same length as that of the rose, and it will be used to tape the boutonniere together as well as attach the boutonniere to the lapel.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the baby's breath behind the rosebud of the boutonniere. The baby's breath adds a little something to the single rosebud without being overwhelming.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the floral tape tightly around the stem of both fresh flowers of the boutonniere, starting just below the base of the flowers. Continue wrapping with the floral tape until the stem is covered completely. Cut the tape and press the end into place.

  5. Step 5

Provide a hat pin or straight pin to attach the boutonniere. Stick the pin through the boutonniere through the taped fresh flower stem so that it will be handy when it's time to wear the boutonniere.

Tips & Warnings
  • Floral tape is self-adhesive and will stick to itself when pressed into place. You can add greenery, ribbon and other decorative things to your fresh flower boutonniere if desired. Store the fresh flower boutonniere in a cool area or in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
  • The pin is sharp. Attach the boutonniere carefully.
