Design a Custom Car

Creating a design for a custom car is about letting your imagination loose on the page. One of the best ways to create a custom car is to take a model that is not typically seen on the road and adding your own touches so that your custom design sticks out. For this example, you will take a car that is normally considered somber, a hearse, and add large wheels, fins and flames on the side and front to make it festive and fun. The techniques can be applied to other custom designs.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a rectangle for the body of the car. Add a rectangular shape on top of the car. Make the top line of this rectangle shorter than the bottom. Add the wheels with two circles below the body. Add a step ladder with two small rectangles coming out of the body of the car.

    • 2

Create the front bumper with a square on the bottom right of the rectangle. Add the back bumper with a rectangle on the bottom left. Add a small diagonal rectangle on the left side for the front window. Add a trapezoid with a triangular front for the side window. Add a rectangle behind this to create another side window. Add a triangle to the back end of this. Create the back window with a diagonal rectangle much like the one you drew for the front window.

    • 3

Add the doors with three vertical lines going down the middle of the body of the car. Place the first door line below the front window, the second below the back of the side window and the last door line below the last side window. Add curved lines above the wheels of the car.

    • 4

Create flames on the car with curved triangular shapes along the front and bottom side of the car. Add rims with small circles inside the wheels. Draw the tail fin of the car with a curved triangular shape coming off the upper right corner of the car. Add shocks with diagonal cylinders above the wheels. Add two shocks per wheel.

    • 5

Ink the entire drawing. Let the ink dry, and erase the pencil lines. Add a reverse "S" shape between the side windows and the back window.

Tips & Warnings

  • After your design is finished, make a copy and color it to test out paint schemes without losing the original.

  • Let the ink dry before you erase your pencil lines or the design will smudge.
