How to Grind Coffee Beans in a Food Processor

While a coffee grinder works best for grinding coffee, a food processor can be used if nothing else is available. The key to using a food processor is to think small and not grind more than a pot's worth of coffee at a single time. If your food processor has the smaller insert tub, it can make the job a bit faster and clean up easier. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out the amount of roasted coffee beans needed to make a single pot of coffee. Generally 1/4 to 1/3 cup of beans will make a regular-sized pot.

    • 2

Set up your food processor. If the processor does have the smaller insert, be sure to put that in place.

    • 3

Pour in the coffee beans and put the cover on the processor.

    • 4

Pulse the beans until the beans have become a ground powder. The finer the powder, the stronger the coffee will be.

    • 5

Use the coffee grounds in your coffee pot as normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a variable speed blender, grind the coffee beans using the grind speed on the blender base. Some brands of blenders or kitchen centers have a coffee grinder accessory available for purchase. Grinding your own beans makes the coffee taste fresher. If you plan to grind your coffee beans daily, a coffee grinder is an inexpensive investment that will make the job easier. Manual coffee bean grinders are still available today and are a terrific backup to have if the power goes out. Combine that with a stove top percolator and a camp stove, and you'll never have to be without your morning coffee.
