How to Reprogram a GE Universal Remote

A universal remote control is a versatile device that can control several electronic devices with the click of a button. For example, one remote can control a TV, a DVD player and a stereo system. It takes a few minutes of setup time but once your universal remote is up and running, you'll have the added convenience of consolidating the function of multiple remotes into just one in addition to eliminating the clutter they cause.

  • Power on the device you intend to program.

  • Press th GE universal remote's "Code Search/Setup" button and hold it down until the indicator light comes on.

  • Press the button for the device you are programming--TV, for example. The indicator light will blink and then stay on.

  • Enter one of the codes for your device. The codes can be found on the packaging for the universal remote. If you do not have the codes, skip to Step 6.

  • Continue entering codes if the first one you try doesn't work. The indicator light will turn off when the code is accepted.

  • If you do not have the codes for your device, after completing Step 3 press the "Power" button on the remote and wait two seconds. If the device does not turn off, repeat. Keep pressing the "Power" button at two-second intervals, up to 250 times, until the device turns off.

  • When the device turns off, press the "Enter/Save" button. The indicator light will turn off.
