The Curve is one of Blackberry's most popular smartphones, with many features that make it useful as both a business and a personal phone. One of these features is the ability to assign custom ringtones to different contacts in the Address Book. You could assign "Calypso" to your dancer sister or "Antelope" to your nephew who runs track. Assigning custom ringtones allows you to know who is calling you before you look at the phone's screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Blackberry Curve on; move the trackball until the icon for the Address Book is highlighted. Press the trackwheel to click; this will select the option to open the Address Book.

    • 2

Begin typing the name of the contact to whom you want to assign the custom ringtone. In the Blackberry Curve, you can type either the first or last name; it will pull up a list of names. Move the trackball to scroll to the name you want.

    • 3

Press the "Menu" key; it's the key to the immediate left of the trackwheel with the dotted Blackberry symbol. A menu box will open. Roll the trackball to "Add Custom Ring Tone." Press the trackball to select. A box will appear that gives you the option of adding pre-loaded ringtones or ringtones you have downloaded to your Blackberry Curve. Move the trackball to the option you want and press it.

Scroll down the list of ringtones. As the cursor scrolls past a tone, it will play the tune or tone. Press the trackball to select the ringtone you want; the custom ringtone is now assigned to the person in your Address Book.

    • 5

Press the Blackberry Menu key; a menu box will open with "Save" highlighted. Press the trackball to save your choice. A small hourglass will appear for a few moments and then the screen will revert back to the Address Book. Hit the "Return" key to the immediate right of the trackball several times until the phone is back on the home page.
