Fix a Security Problem on the Computer

With more and more hackers designing computer viruses and committing acts of cyber terrorism, it is increasingly important to learn how to fix these problems and rid our computers of these viruses--and also protect from getting them again. Computer viruses can come through email, websites and files you download on your computer. It is incredibly important that you make sure your computer is equipped with the most up-to-date anti-virus software available to help protect your computer and to eliminate viruses already on your computer's hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase some anti-virus software with firewall protection. There are many different brands of computer security software available. Some packages include firewall and other protective measures along with anti-virus protection and removal. Norton and McAfee are two of the most trusted names in computer and Internet security, and are probably the companies you should purchase your software from (see Resources below).

    • 2

Install the software on your computer. Put the installation disc in the disc drive and follow all the prompts to install your software and get your security system up and running.

    • 3

Install and set up your firewall. A firewall will help protect you from viruses that come from files you might be downloading onto your hard drive. Most security suites come with this program already, so you shouldn't have to purchase it separately. Fix the Internet security settings filter to your own specified level.

Open up your anti-virus software and run a scan. Double-click on the icon for your software and wait for the program window to start. When the window comes up, select the "Scan" option and allow the software to scan all the files on your hard drive for corrupted files.

    • 5

Click "Remove" or "Repair files" after the scan is completed. If there were any files on your computer that were infected or corrupted, they will be listed in the program window with options to remove or repair them. In most cases it is best to go ahead and have the corrupted files removed from your computer.

Update your software regularly to avoid any future attacks on your computer. Most software only lasts a year or so before you will have to purchase the new updated version.
