Dezcal is a product used to clean out your coffeemaker. Mineral deposits can build up over time and give your coffee an "off" taste. For the best-tasting coffee from your home coffeemaker, use Dezcal once a month to get rid of minerals.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coffeemaker 1 1-oz. Dezcal coffee cleaner packet
  1. Step 1

    Unplug your coffeemaker.

  2. Step 2

Drain the water out of your coffeemaker, if your model has a hot water reservoir.

  3. Step 3

Stir the packet of Dezcal into 16 ounces of hot water. If your coffeemaker does not have a hot water reservoir, add the packet to 32 ounces of water and plug in your coffeemaker.

  4. Step 4

Pour the Dezcal and water into your coffeemaker. Let the 16-ounce solution soak in your coffeemaker's hot water reservoir, or run the 32 ounces of water through the regular brew cycle of your coffeemaker.

  5. Step 5

Drain your coffeemaker and pour at least five pots of clean water through either the hot water reservoir or through the brew cycle to rinse the Dezcal and any dissolved minerals away. The coffeemaker will be ready to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a hot water reservoir on your coffeemaker, do not plug the machine in while you are cleaning it.
