Remember that you're calling outside of your own country, and things will be a little different. The first things you'll notice is that the numbers are different and that when the phone rings in your ear, you will not necessarily hear a ring. When calling Egypt, you'll hear a beeping or a long tone.

Dial the code for the particular city in Egypt you wish to call. The city codes of Egypt used to be all one digit, but they have since become two-digit numbers. The United States country code is 01. Look up the country code before you call; it might have changed depending on geopolitical situations. Always look at a few of the country's city codes before dialing to see if they have changed since you received the phone number.
A lot of the information on the Internet is dated. Therefore, you might have an old number. Also, a few things have changed in the last few years. This might mean the difference between the call costing 25 cents per minute or 75 cents per minute.
