How to Make a Helicopter Out of an Index Card

Making a helicopter toy from just an index card and a paper clip makes a quick and inexpensive craft for children of all ages. The basics are simple, and kids can experiment to see what will make the paper helicopter fly better. You probably have everything to make this creative cousin to the paper airplane in your home, office or classroom. It takes only a few minutes to make, and it can keep the kids busy for much longer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-by-5 index card Scissors Paper clip
  1. Step 1
     

    Fold the card in half lengthwise and unfold.

  2. Step 2
     

    Cut halfway down the fold.

  3. Step 3
     

    Cut about one-third of the way in from each side.

  4. Step 4
     

    Fold back the two flaps formed by the lower outside edges of the card.

  5. Step 5
     

    Fold one half of the top forward and the other half backward.

  6. Step 6
     

    Put a paper clip on the bottom of the card.

  7. Step 7

    Drop the card to watch it spin like a helicopter. The higher you drop it from, the better.

  • Supervise children with scissors.
