Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and height of the first window casing. Subtract 1/4 inch from both measurements. For example, a window that measures 24 x 24 inches will use a piece of plywood that is 23 3/4 X 23 3/4 inches. Mark the measurements on the plywood.

    • 2

Cut the plywood to the exact measurements. Slide the window clips onto the edges of the plywood so that the tension plates are facing the outside. Position the clips so they are no more than 24-inches apart. Windows that measure 2 feet high and wide, or less, only require two clips.

    • 3

Mark the location of the plywood on the inside for easy reference later. For example, if the window is first east window in the living room, you can mark it "1-E-LR" so you'll know where it goes when you reinstall it.

    • 4

Lift the plywood and line it up inside the window casing. Push the plywood inside the casing until the window clips hold it firmly into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you remove the plywood after the initial installation, store the cut plywood and the window clips. That way, they will be ready for the next use. It won't take as long to install them. To put plywood over extra large windows, enlist the aid of a helper.
