While eBay was once known for buying things in an auction format, today the site has many different choices in place for buying items. One of these is the "Buy It Now" option that exists for some items. In order to have a "Buy It Now" option, a seller has to set up the listing in the auction format and choose to include a "Buy It Now" price. That price is generally higher than the starting price for the auction, though sometimes the difference is minimal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find listings with a "Buy It Now" option. This can be done either by shopping as you normally would and noticing listings that have the option, or searching specifically by items that offer a "Buy It Now" option.

  2. Step 2

Choose to do the "Buy It Now" search by going to the lower left side of the search screen. Look under preferences and see the "Buy It Now" option with a small box to the left of it. Click on the box and the site will begin a new search of items using your search terms but only bringing up listings that have the "Buy It Now" option.

  3. Step 3

Decide on the item that you want to buy and look at the price. The "Buy It Now" price is almost always higher than the starting auction price, sometimes significantly so. Decide whether you want to buy the item right then or bid on the item. If you decide to bid, however, you can't use the "Buy It Now" option. Once a single bid is made, the "Buy It Now" link disappears. If you find a listing with a good "Buy It Now" price, don't wait. Anyone else could bid and take away the option.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Buy It Now" link once you have made your decision. This will bring up a new screen that asks you whether you're sure you want to buy the item at the "Buy It Now" price. Click to confirm that you do want to continue with the purchase. This will take you to a final screen that confirms your purchase and asks you to pay. You can pay immediately using the PayPal link provided on this screen, or you can go back to the auction listing and pay through that screen. If you want the seller to send an invoice, use the Request Total link that will be on the listing screen once you've made the purchase.
