How to Build a Mobile Home Deck Roof

A deck is a way to enjoy the outdoors. A deck on the outside of your mobile home is sure to become a favorite family spot in good weather. With a few tools, the help of a friend or two, a roof can be added so that you and your family can enjoy your deck in all kinds of weather. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 treated posts (4 inches x 4 inches x 8 feet) 2 treated posts (4 inches x 4 inches x 9 feet) 2 treated boards (2 inches x 10 inches x 10 feet) 2 treated boards (2 inches x 10 inches x 8 feet) Drill with Phillips head bit 24 galvanized screws (3-inch) 1 large box of self-tapping galvanized screws (1 inch) Caulk gun 1 case of clear caulk 1 roll of aluminum flashing 3 sheets of corrugated aluminum roofing Framing hammer Box of 16d galvanized nails 4 pieces of treated board (2 inch x 6 inch x 1 foot) 10-foot step ladder

      Lay out your long posts on the ground. Lay one of your 10-foot boards connecting the top of one post to another and attach with your three-inch screws.

      Lay out your short posts on the ground. Lay your other 10-foot board connecting the top of one to the other and attach it with your three-inch screws.

      Measure out the spots for your corner posts on the deck. Place one of your foot-long blocks at each corner and nail it to the deck.

      Stand your nine-foot frame on the corner blocks nearest the house. Lean it gently against the house. Stand your eight-foot frame on the outer blocks and attach the two frames by running an eight-foot board from top to top at an angle between the frames. Attach the other eight-foot board on the other side. Maneuver the completed frame into position and nail each post into its own corner block.

      Place a piece of corrugated roof on top of your frame with one foot hanging over the side and secure it with self-tapping screws. Use one screw every four inches. Add the other pieces securing each in the same way. Overlap these pieces and place a bead of caulk between the overlapped areas.

      Roll out your flashing and attach it onto the roof of the mobile home and deck with self tapping screws. Caulk both edges well.
