    How to Make Cologne Oil

  1. Step 1
    Essential oils
    Essential oils

Select several essential oils that you would like to use in your colognes. Essential oils can be found at natural health food stores, aromatherapy boutiques and through online retailers. Sample each oil to see which scents will blend well together. Different colognes can be made by mixing varying amounts of different scents.

  2. Step 2

Use a glass eyedropper to extract your chosen scents from their containers, and mix them in a glass or plastic measuring cup.
Only use one to four drops at a time to avoid adding too much fragrance. Creating cologne oil is trial and error. To keep track of the amount of essential oils you are mixing, log your recipe in a notebook. This will allow you to duplicate a cologne oil you enjoy and avoid repeating a mixture that was undesirable.

  3. Step 3
    Measuring cup

Use a glass or plastic stirrer to blend the oils together in the measuring cup. Once the desired scent has been created, set the mixture aside for 1 hour to allow the scent to blend.

  4. Step 4
    Funnel
    Funnel

Use a funnel to pour 1/2 oz. of jojoba oil into a small glass cologne bottle. Exposure to sunlight can change the composition of the essential oils, so a tinted glass bottle is recommended. Use the funnel to add the essential oil mixture to the glass bottle.

  5. Step 5

Seal the glass bottle. Gently invert the glass bottle several times to mix the oils together. Let the cologne set for 72 hours so the scent can fully mature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store your cologne oil away from light to maintain a lasting scent. For larger batches, double your recipe.
  • Do not use metal utensils to mix oils. Metal can change the chemical makeup of the oils. Do not use plastic bottles to store cologne oil.
